New surrealra1n Tool Lets iPhone 5s Downgrade Without SHSH Blobs on Linux

surrealra1n – iPhone 5s Downgrade Tool Without Blobs

Downgrading an iPhone to an older iOS version is usually tricky, often requiring saved SHSH blobs and complex restore methods. But thanks to a new tool called surrealra1n, iPhone 5s users now have an easier option.

Created by developer pwnerblu and released as an open-source project on GitHub, surrealra1n is a Linux-based downgrade tool for A7 devices, specifically the iPhone 5s (models iPhone6,1 GSM and iPhone6,2 Global).

What Makes surrealra1n Special?

No blobs required – downgrade to iOS 11.3 through 12.5.6 without saved SHSH files
OTA downgrade to iOS 10.3.3 – revive your iPhone 5s with one of the smoothest iOS builds
Tethered & untethered support – boot with or without a computer depending on blobs availability
Open-source – safe to study, fork, and modify
Future expansion planned – iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and A7 iPads may be supported later

How surrealra1n Works

At its core, surrealra1n is a Linux-only shell script that automates the downgrade process. It builds on existing tools like futurerestore, img4, and components from projects such as Legacy iOS Kit.

  • Tethered downgrades: Work without blobs but require a computer to boot after restart.
  • Untethered downgrades: Work with saved blobs, allowing the device to boot normally.

Currently, surrealra1n supports:

  • iOS 11.3 – 12.5.6 (tethered without blobs)
  • iOS 10.3.3 (special OTA downgrade)

⚠️ Earlier iOS 10 builds aren’t supported — attempting to downgrade may cause boot issues.

Why It Matters

For everyday users, surrealra1n is a way to revive old iPhone 5s devices and enjoy smoother, faster iOS versions.
For researchers and developers, it’s a valuable learning tool that reveals how tethered restores and SEP compatibility work on Apple’s older hardware.
